It goes like this,

Given: PM and PN are two tangents to the circle of centre O.

           MPN=40°

To find: ∠MQN

Sol: Since PM and PN are tangents to the circle, hence OM⊥PM and ON⊥PN each 90° (∵Radius makes 90° with the tangents)

Now, in quadrilateral PMQN,

∠MPN+∠PNQ+∠NQM+∠QMP=360°(∵ Angle Sum property of a quadrilateral)

∠MPN+∠NQM+180°=360°(∵∠PMQ+∠PNQ=180°)

40°+∠NQM=180°

∴ ∠NQM = 140°
