$- 2p = \frac{3 + 1}{3q + q}$

$- 2p = \frac{3 + 1}{q(3 + 1)}$

$- 2p = \frac{1}{q}$

$p = \frac{ - 1}{2q}$

Therefore,

$p = \frac{1}{2q}$
