Hey mate!!

 \frac{2x + 1}{8}  -  \frac{x - 1}{3} =  \frac{5}{24}   \\  \\  \frac{3(2x + 1) - 8(x - 1)}{ \cancel{24}}  =  \frac{5}{ \cancel{24} } \\  \\ 6x + 3 - 8x + 8 = 5 \\  \\ 11 - 2x = 5 \\  \\  - 2x = 5 - 11 \\  \\ \cancel   -  \: 2x =  \cancel  -  \: 6 \\  \\ 2x = 6 \\  \\ x =  \frac{ \cancel6 {}^{  \:  \: 3} }{ \cancel2}  \\  \\  \bold{ \therefore \: x = 3}

Thanks for the question!

MsQueen: There is an option in the keyboard
MsQueen: and for cancelling use \cancel
