SOLUTION

TO DETERMINE

The value of x and y when

 \sf{2x + 10y = 40}

 \sf{10x + 20y = 20}

EVALUATION

Here the given equations are

 \sf{2x + 10y = 40}

On dividing both sides by 2 we get

 \sf{x + 5y = 20 \:  \: ....(1)}

Again

 \sf{10x + 20y = 20}

Again Dividing both sides by 10 we get

 \sf{x + 2y = 2 \:  \:  \: .....(2)}

Equation (1) - Equation (2) gives

 \sf{3y = 18}

 \implies \sf{y = 6}

Again from equation (1) we get

 \sf{x + (5  \times 6) = 20}

 \sf{ \implies \: x + 30 = 20}

 \sf{ \implies \: x  = 20 - 30}

 \sf{ \implies \: x  =  - 10}

Hence the required solution is x = - 10 , y = 6
