TO DETERMINE

The value of x and y when

$\sf{2x + 10y = 40}$

$\sf{10x + 20y = 20}$

EVALUATION

Here the given equations are

$\sf{2x + 10y = 40}$

On dividing both sides by 2 we get

$\sf{x + 5y = 20 \: \: ....(1)}$

Again

$\sf{10x + 20y = 20}$

Again Dividing both sides by 10 we get

$\sf{x + 2y = 2 \: \: \: .....(2)}$

Equation (1) - Equation (2) gives

$\sf{3y = 18}$

$\implies \sf{y = 6}$

Again from equation (1) we get

$\sf{x + (5 \times 6) = 20}$

$\sf{ \implies \: x + 30 = 20}$

$\sf{ \implies \: x = 20 - 30}$

$\sf{ \implies \: x = - 10}$

Hence the required solution is x = - 10 , y = 6
