GIVEn

  • 2x + 3y = 22
  • 2x + y = 18

TO FINd

Find the value of x and y

SOLUTIOn

Given equations

  • 2x + 3y = 22 ---(i)
  • 2x + y = 18 ---(ii)

Solve these equations by elimination method

Subtract (i) and (ii) equations

➠ (2x + 3y) - (2x + y) = 22 - 18

➠ 2x + 3y - 2x - y = 4

➠ 2y = 4

➠ y = 4/2

➠ y = 2

Putting the value of y in eqⁿ (ii)

➠ 2x + y = 18

➠ 2x + 2 = 18

➠ 2x = 18 - 2

➠ 2x = 16

➠ x = 16/2

➠ x = 8

ANSWER:

  • Value of 'x' is 8 and 'y' is 2

GIVEN:

  • 2x+3y = 22
  • 2x+y = 18

TO FIND:

  • Value of'x'and'y'.

SOLUTION:

=> 2x+3y = 22. ...(i)

=> 2x+y = 18. ...(ii)

Subtracting eq(i) from (ii)

=> (2x+y)-(2x+3y) = 18-22

=> 2x+y -2x-3y = -4

=> y-3y = (-4)

=> (-2y) = (-4)

=> y = (-4)/(-2)

=> y = 2

Putting y = 2 in eq(i)

=> 2x+3(2) = 22

=> 2x+6 = 22

=> 2x = 22-6

=> 2x = 16

=> x = 16/2

=> x = 8
