8x - 12y + 9x + 12y =20 + (- 3)

17x = 20 - 3

17x  = 17

x = \frac{17}{17}

x = 1

9x + 12y = -3

9(1) + 12y = -3

9 + 12y = -3

12y = -3 - 9

12y = -12

y = \frac{-12}{12}
