2x - 5 = 3x + 5
2x (-3x) - 5 (+5) = 3x (-3x) + 5 (+5)
2x - 3x = 5 + 5
-x = 10
isolate the x, divide -1 from both sides
-x/-1 = 10/-1
x = 10/-1
x = -10
