Ans.

2x - 5y = 600 .....(i)
3x - 9y = 600 .....(ii)

Now, multiplying (i) by 3 and (ii) by 2, we get :

6x - 15y = 1800
6x - 18y = 1200

Now, on subtraction, we get :

3y = 600
or, y = 600/3
or, y = 200

Putting y = 200 in (i), we get -

2x - (5Ă—200) = 600
or, 2x - 1000 = 600
or, 2x = 1600
or, x = 1600/2
or, x = 800

Therefore, the required solution is
x = 800 and y = 200.

Alternative Method :

Given -

2x - 5y = 600 .....(i)
3x - 9y = 600 .....(ii)

From (i), we get -
2x = 5y + 600
or, x = (5y + 600)/2 .....(iii)

From (ii), we get -
3x = 9y + 600
or, x = (9y + 600)/3 .....(iv)

Now, equation (iii) and (iv), we get -
(5y + 600)/2 = (9y + 600)/3
or, (5y + 600)/2 = 3y + 200
or, 5y + 600 = 6y + 400
or, y = 200

From (iv), we get -
x = (1800 + 600)/3
or, x = 800

Therefore, the required solution is
x = 800 and y = 200.
