2x + 5y = 69....... 1

Xy = 108............ 2

From 2 we can get the value of y

Y = 108/x

Lets substitute this value in 1 as follows :

2x + 5 × 108/x = 69

2x + 540/x = 69

2x² + 540 = 69x

2x² - 69x + 540 = 0

Solving for x using the quadratic formula :

(69 +/-√(69² - 4 × 540 × 2) ) /(2×2)

(69 +/-21) / 4

x = 12 or 22.5

We take 12 since it is a whole number.

x = 12

Substituting in 1:

2(12) + 5y = 69

5y = 69 - 24

5y = 45

y = 9

a) x > y = 12>y

b) xy = 12 × 9 = 108

c) x = 12
