2x + y=6 ----------- (i)

2x-y=20 ------------ (ii)

Adding equation (i) and (ii)

2x + y + 2x - y = 6 + 20

=> 4x = 26

=> x = 26/4 = 13/2

Putting x = 13/2 in eqn (i)

2x + y = 6

=> 2(13/2) + y = 6

=> 13 + y = 6

=> y = - 7
