x + y = 5 ------------ (2)

Now,from eq2

we get,

x = 5 - y -------------- (3)

Now , put the value of x fron eq(3) in eq(1)

we get

2(5 - y) - y = 7

10 - 2y - y = 7

10 - 3y = 7

y = 10 - 7/3

y = 3/3

y = 1

now put the value of y in eq(3)

x = 5 - y

x = 5 - 1

x = 4

Note :- Never put value of any variable in that eq from which you have fromed the vale on one variable.
