4. If the mean of six observations
y, y+1, y+4, y+6, y+8, y + 5
is 13, find the value of y.
Answers
Answer:
Given observations x,x+2,x+4,x+6,x+8
∵
5
x+(x+2)+(x+4)+(x+6)+(x+8)
=11
⇒
5
5x+20
=11
⇒x=7
So, the observations are 7,9,11,13,15
Req. mean =
3
11+13+15
=13
Given :- If the mean is 13 . find the value of y .(y, y+1, y+4, y+6, y+8, y+5) ?
Solution :-
we know that,
- Mean = (sum of observations) / (Total number of observation)
here , we have given that,
- Observations are = (y, y + 1, y+4, y+6, y+8, y+5)
- Number of observations = 6
- Mean = 13 .
so,
→ Mean = (sum of observations) / (Total number of observation)
→ 13 = (y + y + 1 + y+4 + y+6 + y+8 + y+5) / 6
→ 13 * 6 = 6y + 24
→ 78 = 6y + 24
→ 6y = 78 - 24
→ 6y = 54
→ y = (54/6)
→ y = 9 (Ans.)
Hence, value of y will be 9.
