How do you divide x² + 2x⁴ - 3x³ + x - 2 by x² – 3x +2?

First I bring the larger polynomial in descending power order:

[math]x^2+2x^4-3x^3+x-2=2x^4-3x^3+x^2+x-2[/math]

Next I just do normal polynom division:

2x^4-3x^3+x^2+x-2:x^2-3x+2

The question is always how can we eleminate the highest power?

2x^4-3x^3+1x^2+x-2:x^2-3x+2=2x^2+3x+6

2x^4-6x^3+4x^2 <--subtract that

3x^3-3x^2+1x-2 <-- bring the rest down

3x^3-9x^2+6x <--subtract

6x^2-5x-2

6x^2-18x+12 <-- subtract

13x-14 <-- given that

this is a smaller degree than the

divisor we can stop here, that's the reminder
