Step-by-step explanation:

(2y + 5) \times (y + 1) = (2y + 3) \times (y - 1)

 2 {y}^{2}  + 2y + 5y + 5 = 2 {y}^{2}  - 2y + 3y - 3

 2 {y}^{2}  - 2 {y}^{2}  + 2y + 5y + 2y - 3y + 5 + 3 = 0

 6y + 8 = 0

6y =  - 8

y =  -  \frac{8}{6}

y =  -  \frac{4}{3}
