Hi ,

Given quadratic equation is

2y² + 9y + 10 = 0

divide each term with 2 we get

y² + 9y/2 + 5 = 0

y² + 9y/2 = -5

y² + 2 × y × 9/4 = -5

y² + 2 ×y × 9/4 + ( 9/4 )² = ( 9/4 )² - 5

( y + 9/4 )² = 81/16 - 5

( y + 9/4 )² = ( 81 - 80 )/16

( y + 9/4 )² = 1/16

y + 9/4 = ± √1/16

y + 9/4 = ± 1/4

y = -9/4 ± 1/4

Therefore ,

y = ( - 9 ± 1 )/4

y = -8/4 or y = -10/4

y = -2 or y = -5/2

I hope this helps you.
