Given Equation is 2y^2 - 9y + 12 = 0

it is in the form of ax^2 + bx + c = 0.

According to the Quadratic formula,y, the solution for ax^2 + bx + c , where a,b and c are numbers often called as coefficients, is given by,

(1) y = -b + root b^2 - 4ac/2a

       = -(-9) + root (-9)^2 - 4 * 2 * 12/2 * 2

       = 9 + root 15 i/4

       = 9/4 + i root15/4.

       = 2.2500 + 0.9682i

(2) y = -b - root b^2 - 4ac

        = -(-9) - root (-9)^2 - 4(2)(12)/2 * 2

       = 9 - root 15 i/4

       = 9/4 - i root 15/4

       = 2.2500 - 0.9682i

Hope this helps!
