The hoop of the stress is 100 MN/m².

Diameter of the boiler shell = 200cm (Given)

Thickness of the plate = 1.5cm (Given)

Internal pressure = 1.5MN/m² (Given)

Hoop stress is the total force which is exerted on the circumference, being perpendicular to both the radius and axis of an object.

Hoop stress = pd/2t

= 1.5 × 10`6 × 2 / 2 × 1.5 × 10²

= 100

Therefore, the stress in the hoop is 100 MN/m².
