alkyl halide can be prepared from alcohol by reaction with SOCl2,PCl3,PCl5,PBr3.

• tertiary alcohol reacts with the strongly acidic hydrogen halide .

1. the -OH of tertiary alcohol reacts with hydrogen oh hydrogen halide i.e, HCl forming a tertiary carbocation and anion (Cl-) with release of water i.e, H2O
