  1. She felt grieved at her miserable condition. She thought that she was born for all delicacies and luxuries of the world. Her petty economic and social status tortured and angered her. She had a liking for marvelous dishes, nice frocks, and jewels.
  2. We can say that Mr. Loisel was a simple man who loved his wife very much through the way he led his life and his attitude towards his wife, for going beyond his means to make her look ravishingly beautiful and take her to the party.
  3. Matilda was not delighted at all to receive the invitation. She knew that all the aristocrats would be there displaying their riches. So, she got spiteful and irritated. She started shedding tears.
  4. Fully at ease among the wealthy people at the party, Mathilde feels that this is exactly where she was meant to be—if it hadn't been for the mistake of destiny. She forgets her old life completely (her husband dozes in an empty room for most of the night) and immerses herself in the illusion of a new one
