The mixtures that can be separated by flotation are:

  • Complex mixtures of ores.
  • The solution that contains a mixture of zinc, copper, and lead.
  • Solution of oil and water.

Flotation is referred to the process of separating metals from their ores. In Industries the process of flotation is used in treating waste materials and paper processing there it is called froth flotation.

The process of flotation follows the ability of a mineral to float, if it was not for this then the process of separation would have been difficult. The unwanted particles in the process get stuck as air bubbles and are carried to the surface where they enter the part which is called 'froth' and then separated.
