If c is the hypotenuse of a right triangle,
of sides a, b and c, find the third side.
(i) b = 12 cm and c = 13 cm
(ii) a = 8 cm and b = 6 cm

Step-by-step explanation:

1. B=12cm and C=13cm

By using the pythagoreous theorem

(H)²=(P)²-(B) ²

(13)²=(P) ²-(12)²

169=(P) ²-144

(P) ²=169-144

(P) ²=25cm

according to Pythagoras theorem

1.

h  {}^{2}  \:  =  \: p { }^{2}  \:  + b {}^{2}

therefore if the hypotenuse is = 13

then =

13 {}^{2}  + 12 {}^{2}  + x {}^{2}

169 + 144 + x {}^{2}

313 + x {}^{2}

x =  \sqrt{313}

x= 17.69

2.

8 {}^{2}  + 6 {}^{2}  + x {}^{2}

64 + 36 + x {}^{2}

x =  \sqrt{100}  \\ x = 10

3.

9 {}^{2}  + 41 {}^{2}  +x {}^{2}  \\ 81 + 2401 +  x {}^{2}   \\ 2482 + x {}^{2}  \\ x =  \sqrt{2482 }  \\ x = 41.89
