Step-by-step explanation:

Given  In a housing complex the ratio of the number of males to that of the females is 4 : 3. If there were 20  males less and 10 females less then the ratio would have been 5 : 4. How many people were there in the  complex?

  • Let m be the number of males and f be the number of females.
  • According to the question we have
  • So m/f = 4/3
  • Or m = 4/3 f
  • Also m – 20 / f – 10 = 5/4
  • 5f – 50 = 4m – 80
  • 4m = 5f – 50 + 80
  • Or m = 5f + 30 / 4
  • Now m = 4/3 f
  • So 4/3 f = 5/4 f + 30 / 4
  • 4/3 f – 5/4 f = 30 / 4
  • 16 f – 15 f / 12 = 30 / 4
  • Or f/3 = 30
  • Or f = 90
  • Now m = 4/3 f
  • Or m = 4/3 x 90
  • Or m = 120

So total number male and female will be 90 + 120 = 210

Given :   In a housing complex the ratio of the number of males to that of the females is 4 : 3. If there were 20 males less and 10 females less then the ratio would have been 5 : 4

To find :  How many people were there in the complex?

Solution:

Let say number of Males in Complex = 4m

then number of Females  in Complex =  3m

Total People in Complex  = 4m + 3m = 7m

20 Male Less  = 4m - 20

10 Females less = 3m - 10

(4m - 20)/(3m - 10)  =  5/4

=> 16m  - 80  = 15m - 50

=> m =  30

=>7m  = 210

210 people are in complex
