3. In ∆ABC, DE parallel to BC. If AD = x, DB = x+1, AE = x+3, EC = x+5 then find x?

ABC DE//BC

AD=x

DB=x+1

AE=x+3

EC=x+5

BY [BPT] Basic proportionally therom

AD/DB=AE/EC

x/x+1/=x+3/x+5(cross multiplication)

x(x+5)=x+1(x+3)

x^2+5x=x^2+3x+1x+3(x^2 cancel)

5x=4x+3

5x-4x=3

1x=3

x=3/1=3

X=3
