QUESTION:
Let P = {a,b,c}, Q = {g,h,x,y} and R = {a,e,f,s}. Find the following

(i) P \ R (ii) Q ∩ R (iii) R \ (P ∩ Q)

•Intersection of two sets :
The intersection of the sets a and b is the set of all the elements which belong to both A and B. It is denoted by A ∩ B (“ A intersection B”).
•If A and B do not have any element in common then A ∩ B= a null set = Ø

SOLUTION :

(i) To find P \ R we have to find the common elements from both P and R and remaining elements in P.

P \ R = {a,b,c} \ {a,e,f,s}

P \ R= {b,c}

(ii) To find Q ∩ R , write the common elements in Q and R.

Q ∩ R = {g,h,x,y} ∩ {a,e,f,s}

there is no common elements in both Q and R

Q ∩ R = Ø

(iii) R \ (P ∩ Q)

P ∩ Q = {a,b,c} ∩ {g,h,x,y}

There is no common elements in both P and Q

P ∩ Q = Ø

R \ (P ∩ Q) = {a,b,c} \ Ø

R \ (P ∩ Q) = {a,b,c}

HOPE THIS WILL HELP YOU..

Hi ,

P = { a , b , c }

Q = { g ,h , x , y }

R = { a , e , f , s }

*********************************************

We know that ,

i ) A\B = { x/x € A and x doesn't belongs B }

ii ) A intersection B = { x/x€ A and x € B }

********************************************

i ) P\R = { a , b , c } \{ a , e , f , s }

= { b , c }

ii ) Q + R = { g , h , x , y } + { a , e , f , s }

= { }

iii ) R\( P + Q )

= R\ ( { a , b , c } + { a , e , f , s } )

= R \ { a }

= { a , e , f , s } \{ a }

= { e , f , s }

I hope this helps you.
