3 men and 5 women can do the job in 3 days. In how many days 1 man and 2 women can complete the work.

Given : 3 men and 5 women can do the job in 3 days.

To Find :  In how many days 1 man and 2 women can complete the job

Solution:

3 men and 5 women can do the job in 3 days.

=> Total Work   = 3*3M  + 3*5W

= 9M + 15W

Let say in x days  1 man and 2 women can complete the job

=>  X(M  + 2W)  =  9M  + 15W

=>  X(M  + 2W)  =  (9M  + 18W) - 3W

=> X(M  + 2W)  =  9(M  + 2W) - 3W

=> X  = 9  -  3W/(M  + 2W)

Hence less than 9 Days

 X(M  + 2W)  =    9M  + 15W

=> X(M  + 2W)  =  (7.5M  + 15W)  + 1.5M

=> X(M  + 2W)  =  7.5(M  + 2W)  + 1.5M

=> X = 7.5  +  1.5M/(M  + 2W)

More than 7.5 Days

1 man and 2 women can complete the job

in between 7.5  and  9 Days   depending  upon their efficiency

if their efficiencies are considers Equal  then M = W

X  = 9  -  3W/(M  + 2W)   = 9  - 3M/(3M)  = 8 days

X = 7.5  +  1.5M/(M  + 2W)  = 7.5 + 1.5M/3M  = 8 days

1 man and 2 women can complete the job

in between 7.5  and  9 Days    depending upon their efficiency

8 days will be taken if  Their efficiencies are considered Equal.
