Hello,

It is not possible to have 4-pentyne if you have a methyl group in the chain.

Because when you compare their priorities -yne has more priority than methyl, and the carbon atom bearing -yne is considered to be first carbon for the nomenclature.

It can be 3 methyl 1 pentyne.

It is possible to have 3 methyl 4 pentyne, if there are any other groups of higher priorities than the -yne, for eg. Carboxy group (-oic acid) or hydroxy group(-ol) etc.
