see figure, length of SR = SM + MN + NR

because PQRS is isosceles trapezium, so, SR = NR = 3cm and MN = PQ = 7cm

so, Length of SR = 3cm + 7cm + 3cm = 13cm

now, area of PQRS = 1/2 { length of PQ + length of SR } × length of PM

= 1/2 { 7cm + 13cm} × 4cm

= 20cm × 2 cm

= 40 cm ²
