Given :

A spring with length of 30 cm has been kept vertical.

Undeformed length of the spring = 40 cm

Spring constant = 10 N per cm

To find :

Force in the spring.

Solution :

Since the force in the spring is determined by the formula,

F = k(Δx)

where F = force applied

k = stiffness or spring constant

Δx = change in length of the spring when a force is applied

By substituting these values in the formula,

F = 10(40 - 30)

  = 10 × 10

  = 100 N

Therefore, force in the spring was 100 N.
