3. Solve 2x - 5y = 4 and 3x -8y=5 and hence find
the value of k for which x = ky + 6.​

Answer:

x = ( 4 + 5y ) / 2 from 1st equation ---- ( 3 )

Put this in 2nd equation,

3 [ ( 4 + 5y ) / 2 ] - 8y = 5

12 + 15y - 16y = 10

2 = y

x = [ 4 + 5(2) / 2 ] = 7

Now, x is 7 and y is 2

To find the value of k,

x = ky + 6

7 = 2k + 6

1 = 2k

k = 1/2 = 0.5
