let initial distance between them be d

so gravitational force between them,

putting values in formula,

F=GMm/d² .........1

now distance between them is doubled,

so now there separation = 2d

there mass will not be changed and G is universal constant.

now again putting values in formula,

we get,

F(new) = GMm/(2d)²

= GMm/4d²

comparing this with initial one we get,

F(new) = (GMm/d²) × (1/4) .............3

now substituting initial force of attraction,

F(new) = F/4

F=2 { given in question}

substituting in equation 3,

F(new) = 2/4 = 1/2 = 0.5 N
