As given two pistons A and B are filled with water and air respectively. In that case, the piston B which is filled with air would be easier to push. Because -
- Piston A, is filled with water. Water contains a medium amount of intermolecular force and little gaps between the particles, as we all know. As a result, the compressibility is minimal. So if we push the piston the little gaps between its particles will create a problem and it will comparatively harder to push as the particles will take extra time to vacate their place.
- Piston B, As air is very compressible, there is enough air in piston "B" for the piston to move freely. This is due to the fact that air particles are widely separated and have a weak intermolecular force.
