3. Two spheres A and B moving in opposite dire-
ctions have velocities of 10m/s and 20m/s.
The two spheres collide with each other
elastically. If A continues to move in the same
direction at 4 m/s, the velocity of sphere B
just after the collision is,

1)34 m/s in the same direction

2) 34 m/s in the opposite direction

3) 26 m/s in the same direction

4) 26 m/s in the opposite direction

Answer:

Use linear momentum conservation

Let velocity of B is v after collision in same direction .

mass of A is m and B is m'

10m - 20 m' = 4m - m'v \\ (v - 20) m' = - 6m \\ v = 20 - \frac{6m}{ m'} \\

So velocity depends on mass of blocks which isn't given.
