  • Red soil- presence of iron and not water-retentive

  • Laterite soil- rich in iron and agriculturally less important.

  • Mountainous soil or forest soil- rich in humus and the soil is heterogeneous.

  • arid soil- it contains a substantial amount of soluble salt

  • alkaline soil- rich in chloride and this is an unproductive soil'

  • marshy soil- it contains a large quantity of matter/ humus [dead and organic matter] which makes the soil alkaline
