Freedom fighters used different methods because it was extremely difficult to fight with the Britishers because of the modern use of weaponry.
During World War Two, the British had mobilised India's resources for their imperial war effort. They crushed the attempt of Mahatma Gandhi and the Indian National Congress to force them to 'quit India' in 1942. ... For this reason, Britain was desperate to keep India (and its army) united.
With the Second World War, Britain lost a large amount of economic, military and political strength. With a lowering in support even from its own citizens, the leaders of the United Kingdom opened up discussions with their Indian counterparts regarding the freedom of India.
