Step-by-step explanation:

2x + 3y = 16…………. (1)

3x + 4y = 23………….. (2)

After multiplying (1) by 3 and (2) by 2, we have

6x + 9y = 48…………. (3)

6x + 8y = 46………….. (4)

After subtracting (4) from (3), we have

y = 2

Now substitute the value of y in (1)

2x + 3 (2) = 16

2x +6 = 16

2x = 16-6

2x = 10

x = 10/2

x = 5

so we have x=5 and y= 2

Verification:::

Substitute the values of x and y in (2)

3x + 4y = 23

3(5) + 4 (2) = 23

15 + 8 = 23

23 =23

RHS = LHS
