hey!!!

given :- 3x² + 14x - 40

we have to find a multiple of ( 40 × 3 = 120 ) by which the final result after adding or subtracting will be 14.

multiples of 120 = 1 and 120, 2 and 60, 3 and 40, 4 and 30, 5 and 24, 6 and 20, 8 and 15, 10 and 12.

on adding or subtracting the multiples :-

>> 1 + 120 = 121, 120 - 1 = 119

>> 2 + 60 = 62, 60 - 2 = 58

>> 3 + 40 = 43, 40 - 3 = 37

>> 4 + 30 = 34, 30 - 4 = 26

>> 5 + 24 = 29, 24 - 5 = 19

>> 6 + 20 = 26, 20 - 6 = 14

so we will use this pair "20-6"

= 3x² + ( 20x - 6x ) - 40
= 3x² + 20x - 6x - 40
= x ( 3x + 20 ) - 2 ( 3x + 20 )
= ( 3x + 20 ) ( x - 2 )

cheers!!!

shruti7090: Thanks a lot. Could you please tell me what is the ligic you arrived so quickly in splitted 14x to 20x-6x
