We know that volume of sphere = (4/3) * πr^3.
Given, volume of a sphere is 4851 cm^3.
⇒ (4/3)πr^3 = 4851
⇒ (4/3) * (22/7) * r^3 = 4851
⇒ (88/21) * r^3 = 4851
⇒ 88r^3 = 4851 * 21
⇒ 88r^3 = 101871
⇒ r^3 = 1157.625
⇒ r = ∛1157.625
⇒ r = 10.5 cm.
Now,
Given, New volume = (4312/3) cm^3.
⇒ (4/3) * πr^3 = (4312/3)
⇒ (4/3) * (22/7) * r^3 = (4312/3)
⇒ 3(88r^3) = 21(4312)
⇒ 264r^3 = 90552
⇒ r^3 = 343
⇒ r = 7 cm.
Hence, decrease in radius = 10.5 - 7 = 3.5 cm.
Therefore, radius should be reduced by 3.5 cm.
Hope this helps!
