m1u1+m2u2=m1v1+m2v2

here initial velocity of girl and boat is zero,

so u1=0,u2=0

therefore m1v1+m2v2=0

now putting values of m1 and m2 and v1 in above equation

50×3+m2v2=0

150+m2v2=0

m2v2= -150   now m2=300

so 300v2= -150

v2=-150/300 = -0.5m/s   which is the answer
