Given:

External voltage = 30 V and  PN diode is ideal.

We have to find: the value of V_{AB} = ?

Solution:

There are 2 loops in the figure.

When PN diode is forward biased, it acts as a conductor .

Draw the equivalent resistance diagram.

The firstly two resistors are in parallel:

\frac{1}{R} = \frac{1}{10}  + \frac{1}{10}

\frac{1}{R} = \frac{1+1}{10}=\frac{2}{10}

R = 5 Ω

Also,

The other two resistors are in series:

R = R_1 + R_2

⇒ R = 10 + 5

R = 15 Ω

By Ohm's law,

V = IR

⇒ I = \frac{30}{15}

I = 2 Amp

V_{AB} = 10 × 2 + 10 V

V_{AB} = 30 V

Thus, the required "option 3) 30 V" is correct.
