Shahid suffered from cancer (Brain Tumor). Shahid was quite brave and courageous; he was diagnosed with malignant brain tumor in February 2000. All types of treatment schedules proved vain. The doctors told his family he had just a few months to live. Shahid did not let it dampen his spirits. He chose to live his fully till the end.

Shahid kept an endless carnival of friends, food, and celebrations at his apartment. He would remain surrounded by his friends, eating, drinking, singing, discussing. Finally Shahid breathed his last on December 2001 at 2 a.m. while sleeping.
