Answer :

x = 5/2 , y = -7/2

Solution :

Here , the given equations are ;

37x + 43y = 123 ------(1)

43x + 37y = 117 -------(2)

Now ,

Adding eq-(1) and (2) , we get ;

=> 37x + 43y + 43x + 37y = 123 + 117

=> 40x + 40y = 240

=> 40(x + y) = 240

=> x + y = 240/40

=> x + y = 6 -------(3)

Now ,

Subtracting eq-(1) from eq-(2) , we get ;

=> 43x + 37y - (37x + 43y) = 117 - 123

=> 43x + 37y - 37x - 43y = - 6

=> 6x - 6y = -6

=> 6(x - y) = -6

=> x - y = -6/6

=> x - y = -1 ---------(4)

Now ,

Adding eq-(3) and (4) , we get ;

=> x + y + x - y = 6 + (-1)

=> 2x = 5

=> x = 5/2

Now ,

Putting x = 5/2 in eq-(3) , we get ;

=> x + y = 6

=> 5/2 + y = 6

=> y = 6 - 5/2

=> y = (12 - 5)/2

=> y = -7/2

Hence ,

x = 5/2 , y = -7/2
