3MnO2 + Al ----> 3Mn + 2Al2O3
In the above reaction, notice that Manganese dioxide is reduced to manganese whereas aluminium is oxidized to alumina. So, it is clear that aluminium is the reducing agent and manganese dioxide is the oxidizing agent.

Lose of Oxygen is reduction.According to the equation, Manganese loses oxygen whereas Aluminum gains Oxygen. It can be said that Aluminum took away the oxygen from Manganese so Aluminum is the reducing agent.
Also, Aluminum is losing electron so it is oxidized. Reducing agents always get oxidized.
