3x - 40 = \dfrac{1}{2}x + 35

Multiply both the sides by 2

➾ 6x - 80 = x + 70

Move like terms

➾ 6x - x = 70 + 80

Calculate

➾ 5x = 150

Divide both the sides by 5

➾ x = 30

∴ The value of x is 30

Verification :-

3x - 40 = \dfrac{1}{2}x + 35

By putting the value of x

➾ 3 × 30 - 40 = \dfrac{1}{2} × 30 + 35

➾ 90 - 40 = 15 + 35

➾ 50 = 50

∴ LHS = RHS ✔✔

 \fbox {\bold {ANSWER}}

3x - 40 = 1/ 2 x + 35

3x - x / 2= 35 + 40

( 6x - x ) /2 = 75

5x = 75 × 2

5x = 150

x = 150 / 5

x = 30

The value of x is  \bold{\small {30}}
