-17x = -40

x = $\dfrac{40}{17}$

Put the value of x in equation 1.1 we get,

=> 15 × $\dfrac{40}{17}$ - 20y = 0

=> $\dfrac{600}{17}$ - 20y = 0

=> $\dfrac{600 - 140y}{17}$ = 0

=> 600 - 140y = 0

=> -140y = -600

y = $\dfrac{600}{140}$

divide the numerator and denominator by 20 we get,

y = $\dfrac{30}{7}$

So, the value of x and y are $\dfrac{40}{17}$ and $\dfrac{30}{7}$
