Explanation:

First make coefficient of x equal by multiplying eq . 1 by 4 and eq. 2 by 3.

i.e. 4(3x+y=11)

and 3(4x-2y=8)

So 12x+4y=44 ...(3)

12x-6y=24....(4)

By subtracting eq.4 from eq.3

12x+4y=44

- 12x-6y=24

- + - (all signs are changed)

10y=20

y=20/10

y=2

Substitute the value y=2 in eq 1st

3x+y = 11

3x + 2= 11

3x= 11-2

3x= 9

x=9/3

x=3

so the value of x and y is 3 and 2 respectively.
