x - y = 4
y = x - 4
put in
3x - y = 3
3x - (x - 4) = 3

3x - x + 4 = 3
2x = 3 - 4
x=-1/2
 - y = 1 \div 2 - 4
y = 7 /<br />2

Here is your answer.....

3x= 3+y
x= 3+y/3. ........(1)
x-y=4. ..........(2)

Putting value of eq(1) in eq 2....
3+y/3-y=4
3+y-3y=4
3-2y=4
-2y=4-3
-2y=1
y= -1/2

Putting value of y in (2)
x=7/2...
