It is given that ,

[ 3y - ( x + 2y ) ] - [ x + ( 2x - y ) ]

= [ 3y - x - 2y ] - [ x + 2x - y ]

= [ y - x ] - [ 3x - y ]

= y - x - 3x + y

= y + y - x - 3x

= 2y - 4x
