⇒ 4 - 2( 7 + 8x ) = 12 - 6( 2x - 7 ) + 4

⇒ 4 - ( 2 x 7 ) - ( 2 x 8x ) = 12 - ( 6 x 2x ) - ( 6 x - 7 ) + 4

⇒ 4 - 14 - 16x = 12 - 12x + 42 + 4

⇒ - 10 - 16x = 12 + 42 + 4 - 12x

⇒ - 10 - 16x = 58 - 12x

⇒ - 16x + 12x = 58 + 10

⇒ - 4x = 68

⇒ x = - 68 / 4

⇒ x = - 34 / 2

⇒ x = - 17

Therefore the value of x satisfying the given equation is - 17.
