If x= number
4/5x - 2/3x = 8
Therefore,
12/15x - 10/15x = 44 ( on taking LCM)
Therefore, 2/15x = 8
So, x= 15*8/2
x = 120/2
x = 60

Given:

4/5 of a number exceeds its 2/3 by 8.

To find:

The number.

Solution:

Let the number be x.

So,

4/5 of the number is

 =  \frac{4}{5} x

Similarly,

2/3 of the number is

 =  \frac{2}{3} x

So,

according to the question, we have,

4/5 of a number exceeds its 2/3 by 8

Hence,

 \frac{4}{5} x \: -    \:  \frac{2}{3} x = 8

On taking 15 as LCM, we have,

 \frac{12x - 10x}{15}  = 8

On solving the above, we get

 \frac{2x}{15}  = 8

x =  \frac{120}{2}

x = 60

Hence, the required number is 60.
