Elephants have the biggest teeth, even bigger than whales. When the animal becomes old, their teeth start breaking and falling off. This makes chewing difficult. Most mature animals at this stage die of starvation. This is nature's way of executing the life cycle of these giant beings.
However, it is a traumatic way to die and has proven to be more pain to the animal than help with its survival. So this feature is called a maladaptive development trait. And the species has not been able to adapt differently and overcome this difficulty to this day.
